MAI MAI MAI is an Audio/Video project, an idiosyncratic examination into Mediterranean and Southern Italian folklore, a dark journey into past traditions, made of blurred memories and hazy sounds.
It can be considered as a ‘Mediterranean Hauntology’, one that avoids the pitfalls of nostalgia yet which reanimates the ghosts of a lost past, in the form of an evocative ritual.
For DAVID McCLEAN, the fissions and discordance of any real unified sense of movement has been a happy hunting ground; the Tombed Visions label founder, promoter and musician has been able to leave footprints in several territories, unconsciously pulling things together again as he jumps between drifting masses. The dark, beating heart of Manchester noir.
He’ll be joined by Peer Hat favourite and arch improviser, DAVID BIRCHALL. David has performed in the UK, Europe, Russia, Palestine, USA & Japan. He has undertaken artist residencies at The Penthouse (Manchester, UK) and Beppu Project (Beppu, JP). His work has been broadcast on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 6 Music & SWR in Germany.
Together, expect something singular and exciting. What form this will take, remains to be seen….
THE MANIFESTATION GROUP are a new music based spiritual science project, revolving around the exhumation of various thought forms and ‘ghosts’ in the form of resonance and music. A thorough exploration of the power of ritualisation and relational beautification, within the context of the contemporary song book. They invite you to join them as openers for the evening.
