‘House Dance’

Our second party of 2019 is a celebration of one of the key elements of COMMUNITY.

House Dance is a social dance born out of the underground clubs of Chicago & New York. A fusion of styles brought about by clubbers of numerous social and cultural backgrounds partying together across the two cities in the post disco era. Key ingredients that make up the style include Jazz, Tap, Latin, African, Capoeira, Hip Hop and even Ballet & Contemporary.

Since the early days of COMMUNITY, Irfan Rainy & Robasca have aimed to make the party the platform for the House Heads of the North to come together and work it out in an ideal environment amongst like minded spirits chasing the energy of the parties of New York. Years later, awareness and popularity of style has grown and it feels as though we’re on the cusp of forming a true House Dance Community in the North.

To introduce newcomers to the dance style, we’ll be hosting a beginners House Dance workshop in the first hour of the event, covering the foundational basics of Groove, Jacking & Footwork.

Later into the night will see a showcase highlighting the improvisational, expressive element of the style when danced solo or with a partner, commonly know as an exchange or stalking.

Expect the usual melting pot of House, Disco, Jazz, Funk, Boogie, Bruk & Soulful music you’d hear at any COMMUNITY but with an emphasis on the syncopated rhythms that fuel the creativity of the House Dancer.
