DESCRIPTION:Pioneering her own brand of cosmic folk\, BRÓNA McVITTIE both deftly reimagines traditional folk and crafts her own nature-inspired songs with a rich mix of folk and electronic instruments. Her debut solo album We Are the Wildlife\, released in January 2018\, earned her a string of four star reviews from MOJO\, Uncut\, The Guardian and The Independent garnering high praise from critics including Nigel Williamson and the late Andy Gill.   \nThe album’s single Under the Pines was featured in Lauren Laverne’s best-of-2018 list. And before her Womad appearance in 2019 Bróna was interviewed live by Cerys Matthews on her BBC 6 Music festival highlights show. \nHer second album The Man in the Mountain\, released in September 2020\, immediately scored the much-coveted Folk Album of the Month spot in The Guardian. Later that year Jude Rogers ranked it 4th in her 10 Best Folk Albums of 2020. In her words “You’re put in the place of a bird navigating wide open landscapes\, absorbing light\, space and air. This is music that takes you on its wing\, and gives you fresh visions”. \nThe Man in the Mountain features notable collaborations with avant-garde Nordic composer Arve Henriksen and electronica trailblazers Isan. The title track\, inspired by the local legends and lore of Bróna’s homeland\, tells a tale of a battle between Irish and Scottish giants. Her desire to steer traditional folk into the 21st century is borne out of her immersion in the London Irish music scene (for many years she was lead singer for 6-piece trad outfit The London Lasses) and her longtime love of electronica. First playing music together in Exmouth\, Devon\, they’ve been based in Bristol since 2020. Their debut album – about people missed\, places found\, and things unearthed from the spaces the light doesn’t reach – will be released on 15th July 2022 on Pear O’Legs Records. The album was made possible by generous funding from Crowdfunders and Help Musicians.\nFritillaries’ music – sometimes upbeat and bold\, sometimes slow and contemplative – is always original and engaging\, combining Americana instrumentation and English folk roots with a pop song sensibility.\n\n\nJESS MEGSON is a troubadour in the classic sense of the term\, wandering wherever her muse takes her\, from the rooftops of Morocco\, to Portugal and Bali. Each song recorded in the Wall of Sound-style court are pure takes capturing the energy of the Spud Cannon live experience in its purest form to date. The first single “Juno” from the upcoming album is an electric\, feel-good track that pulls inspiration from nights at Vassar\, the movie Juno\, and band member Lucy’s bunny (who is featured on the cover). DESCRIPTION:A punchy double header\, with the support of Manchester’s marvellous Ghost Station.\n\nDanish four-piece KINDSIGHT make music that draws from 80’s and 90’s alternative rock and\ncombines it with the shimmering Scandinavian pop that the region has become so renowned\nfor\, resulting in a sound that is both fuzzy and melodic in equal measure. Releasing their first\nmaterial in 2020\, the up and coming Danish four-piece have been quick on the rise\, picking\nup steam with a series of new singles over the last 18 months the band is set to release their\ndebut album ‘Swedish Punk’ on March 25.\nKindsight formed when front-woman Nina Hyldgaard Rasmussen and guitarist Søren\nSvensson bonded over a shared love of The Sugarcubes. They went on to recruit bass\nplayer Anders Prip and drummer Johannes Jacobsen and over the past few years have\nearned a reputation within Copenhagen’s thriving indie scene for their exciting live shows.\nOn the album’s title\, Rasmussen says “Swedish Punk’ was an off the cuff term our producer\,\nAdam\, came up with when we needed a working title for a new song we wrote during the\nrecording sessions. Our bass player\, Anders\, then wrote some lyrics based on the working\ntitle and we ended up liking the whole ‘Swedish Punk’-thing so much it became the name of\nthe album”.\nThere’s a real coming of age charm to Swedish Punk. ‘Don’t You Grow Up’ was the first\nsong the band ever wrote together. Written in “a time when we thought to be a sunny\nteenage rock band\, you had to write songs about teenagers in the sun\,” they say. Atop\njangling guitars\, Rasmussen’s distinctive voice dances somewhere between that of Mazzy\nStar’s Hope Sandoval and Alvvays’ Molly Rankin\, leaving the listener drenched in the\nnostalgic optimism of summers gone by. Lead single ‘Sun Is Always In My Eyes’\, an\nunrelenting indie-pop earworm\, continues in that same vein. Recalling a time when life was\ncarefree\, the band say the track is about ‘stealing money from your mother and feigning to run\naway from home. Being blessed and unable to see because you’ve got too much sun in your\neyes’.\nThere’s not a single song on Swedish Punk that would feel out of place on the soundtrack of\na 00’s independent movie. The band possess an unmistakable talent for crafting disarmingly\nbuoyant yet achingly nostalgic indie-rock songs based on the everyday. ‘Queen Of\nCowboys’ is an ode to the free-form chaos of interacting with the general public.\nReferencing the matter of fact\, yet often completely insane advice and ideas you overhear\nfrom strangers passing by.\nPunchy cut ‘Hi Life’ tells the story of being trapped in an apartment (imagine!) for months on\nend\, watching life unfold through the windows of the block opposite. Rasmussen’s vocal\ncontinues to shine\, playfully weaving its way over the band’s almost math-rock backing\nbefore finally meeting the guitars for a truly addictive chorus.\nSwedish Punk is a truly addictive debut\, steeped in optimism\, wit and melody. A treasure\ntrove of charming and infectiously catchy indie songs\, sprinkled with a good measure of\ndissonance and noise. The album is set for release on March 25th\, 2022 via\nStockholm-based independent label Rama Lama Records (Melby\, Wy\, Steve Buscemi’s\nDreamy Eyes\, Chez Ali etc.).\nSLOW DOWN MOLASSES is a Canadian indie rock band from Saskatoon\, Saskatchewan. The current five piece lineup consists of Tyson McShane\, Aaron Scholz\, Levi Soulodre\, Chris Morin and Jordan Kurtz. The band’s sound and roster has changed dramatically over the course of its history; having evolved\, in the words of Exclaim! “from a sprawling art-pop collective (at one point including 14 members) into a more muscular\, shoegaze-y\, post-punk outfit.”\nSlow Down Molasses have released four full-length records since their inception in 2006.[4] 2011’s self-released Walk Into the Sea included collaborations with musicians Julie Doiron and Olenka Krakus. Their most recent full-length 100% Sunshine (2016) was recorded by Barrett Ross and Chad Munson at Ghetto Box Studios in Saskatoon\, SK\, and mixed by Tony Doogan (Mogwai\, Belle and Sebastian) at Castle Of Doom in Glasgow\, Scotland.\nSlow Down Molasses have toured extensively across their native North America\, making regular appearances at music festivals SXSW\, CMJ\, NXNE\, Pop Montreal\, Halifax Pop Explosion\, and Sled Island. Internationally they’ve been a part of Germany’s Reeperbahn Festival\,Great Escape Festival\, Liverpool Sound City\, and End Of The Road in the UK\, Nouvelle Prague in the Czech Republic\, BIME Festival in Spain\, and the Netherlands’ Incubate Festival.\nSeductive melodies ride on velveteen grooves – you’re now tuned into GHOST_STATION. DESCRIPTION:Following on from September’s first preview of Unmasked\, we’re back at The Peer Hat on Wednesday 13th April for the final performance ahead of Ushiku submitting his DYCP activity report to Arts Council England.\nIn Unmasked Ushiku Crisafulli uses hip hop\, comedy\, soundscapes and theatrical monologues to explore autistic authenticity and autistic enjoyment.\nIt will also feature an exhibition of masks created in partnership with Filipino artist Miel Timtiman that challenges infantilising language around autistic enjoyment and autistic authenticity while also offering a global south perspective on the importance of creating art from recycled materials and environmentalism that were created using a micro bursary from Graeae as part of the Beyond Programme..\nThere will also be art commissioned from Accrington based Jonny Lindsey and Nigerian artist Akilo Joseph.\nFollowing on from the initial sharing Ushiku made a conscious decision to include an array of incredible supporting artists whose own experiences include those of dyslexia\, dyspraxia\, mental health and neurodiversity.\nTom Juniper is an autistic and genderqueer poet based in Sheffield\, UK. They have been shouting rhymes at microphones for almost two decades.Tom writes poems about identity\, oppression\, politics and monsters. They enjoy playing with poetic form\, nicking ideas from folklore and making everything a bit gay if at all possible. They don’t have any merch to promote at the present time but a pint after the show is always appreciated if you want to show your support.\nSketch is a rapper\, producer and poet based in Manchester\, England. Since signing with madness records Sketch became 1/5th of ‘The Commission’\, the labels own gangster racket posing as a hip hop collective.\nKate Ireland is an artist\, writer and performer hailing from Glasgow currently living in London. Her work explores capitalism\, empathy\, mental health and the mundane.\nAnthony Briscoe is a performance poet and socially engaged artist from Blackpool\, currently living in Manchester. His poetry ranges from socio-political commentary\, space\, advertisements replacing love and even clown funerals.
